Finished one!

Hello everybody,  I just want to say that the feeling of finishing something is incredible.

I’m someone who struggles to start projects and actually see them through. Creativity can be a blessing, but it can also feel like a curse. So finishing this game is something I’m genuinely proud of.

Open Lock is a mental-health–inspired game, but it’s also meant to be enjoyable, and at times, intentionally frustrating. Much like a roguelike, progress isn’t always straightforward. It isn’t perfect, but I don’t believe perfection really exists anyway.

Originally, I wanted to learn game development through Godot. But I quickly realised it would take more time than I had. When I discovered Twine, it felt achievable. I remember thinking, “Even someone like me could do this.” And that made all the difference.

Writing the dialogue and coding the story was surprisingly fun. Watching the narrative unfold through different choices was incredibly rewarding. The UI, on the other hand… wow. That part gave me a real headache. Designing and adjusting it as I went was easily the most challenging part of the project.

But it’s done now.

If you play the game, I hope you enjoy it — and I’d genuinely love to hear what you think.

And if you’re a developer struggling to finish something of your own: I hope you do.
